District's Guidelines on Masks and Face Shield

Dear Middle School Families,

I hope you are safe, well and recovering. As conditions continue to change throughout our district and community, we want to provide our middle school families an update on fall activities. At this time, we will be significantly changing our fall activity programming. Below are the key changes:

1.     All fall activities are suspended until we begin in-person instruction.

2.     As buildings begin to open for in-person instruction, we will provide opportunities for students to work individually or in small groups to build their skills. Individual buildings will communicate plans with their families.

3.     All in-person performances and games will be suspended until further notice.

We deeply value middle school activities and appreciate the importance of these activities to our students’ development. We share in the disappointment that this news brings. The primary reasons for making this decision are below:

1.     In the fully remote school setting, transportation to practice will be a challenge for many students.

2.     The late start to the school year significantly impacts the length of the season and the preparation time to safely have students compete.

3.     School schedules and transportation availability will significantly affect our ability to compete across schools or districts this fall. In addition, very few schools from our conference will be available for competition during the fall season.

4.     In accordance with Linn County Public Health Guidance, we have prioritized safety in our middle school in-person plan using the cohort model when we return on site. Traditional activities would mix these cohorts and counteract our mitigation efforts.

We will continue to monitor the conditions - both COVID and infrastructure related - as we move into our winter activities season at which point we will reassess. We are excited to resume offering our robust activity programming.

Thank you for your input and understanding throughout this process. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your building principal or myself.
