Seigokan Goju Ryu Karate Do

What's

New

Seigokan Goju-Ryu has been taught at Grant Wood since 1997. The club has provided the opportunity for many students to comfortably experience the martial arts through their study of Seigokan Goju-Ryu. Classes are taught immediately after school and makes it convenient for students to attend.

Sensei Roger Halstead has been leading this group since the beginning. Mr. Halstead has a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Seigokan Goju Ryu Karate Do under Sensei Brian Baxter, Sandan. He also has a First Degree Black Sash in Pai Hsing Chuan Kung Fu under Sifu Phillip Star. He has spent time studying Kendo and Ju Jitsu under Sensei Chris Smaby, Godan. Mr. Halstead has been involved with the martial arts for over 25 years.

Seigokan Goju Ryu Karate Do is currently being taught at Grant Wood Elementary School under the leadership of Sensei Halstead. The club currently has 20 students enrolled in the program. Students range from white belt to purple belt in rank.

The Seigokan Goju Ryu Club is associated with the Seishin Ryu Martial Arts Association in Cedar Falls, IA, under the leadership of Soshu, Lee Dawson, Master of Seishin Ryu Karate. The club has made contact with the International Seigokan Association in Japan, that was under the leadership of the late Master Seigo Tada, and now being run by his wife, Mrs Michiko Okamoto.
